When Carole was five years old, she coaxed the neighbor's old horse over to a fence, and took her first ride without benefit of bridle or saddle. An equestrian was born! As a teenager, her first sculpture class confirmed another life passion. A sculptress was born!
Carole Baker received a B.A. in Art and Journalism from the University of Wyoming and then taught Art in that state. She has completed workshops at Harwood and Taos Art Schools in New Mexico, and at Scottsdale Art School in Arizona. Her instructors have included Veryl Goodnight, Lincoln Fox and Mehl Lawson. Her knowledge of equine anatomy derives not only from study: but from years of grooming, riding and caring for her beloved Tennessee Walking horses. The sale of her business in 1996 has facillated her committment to share the beauty of the horse through her sculpture and allowed her full time presence in her New Mexico studio. However, her favorite mare grazes nearby, waiting for rides along the Rio Grande River: while her rescue doberman, Gypsy, naps in the studio, dreaming of their trail adventures. Carole has received numerous awards along with donating her sculptures to worthy causes. These along with a listing of her past shows and affilations are listed on her awards page. |
